Nunde Ke No Na Bai?
On June 5th 2009 at 2AM, presidential candidate Baciro Dabó and Member of Parliament, Helder Proenca were assassinated. These political murders came only three months after the March assassination of President João Bernardo “Nino” Vieira, and his rival, armed forces chief of staff Gen. Batista Tagmé Na Waie.
In the following days of political upheaval in the nation’s capital, seven MCs came together as Big up GB in Bissau’s only functioning recording studio to create NUNDE KA NO NA BAI?- Where are we going?
The mixtape depicts the raw expressions of this young collective of rappers in response to the lawlessness and political violence that have troubled Guinea Bissau since its independence from Portugal in 1974.
Supported and produced by Cobiana Records and Nomadic Wax the mix-tape epitomizes the potential of Hip Hop to instigate social change.
NUNDE KA NO NA BAI? is available for free download or purchase, to draw attention to Guinea Bissau’s precarious political straits, which are being largely ignored by the outside world. Show your support by sharing this, playing it out, whatever you want. Big up GB.
